Good Read: Scripts: Elegant Lettering from Design’s Golden Age

Jan 4, 2012   //   by Devlin   //   Blog  //  No Comments

I found this great book the other day, Scripts: Elegant Lettering from Design’s Golden Age by Steven Heller and Louise Fili. This is a must have for anyone with an interest in calligraphy, script writing or fonts. It is amazing to see the craftsman ship from these artists. It puts much of modern design to shame when you can sell how elegantly these designers created art with brush and pen.

Now, don’t get me wrong, it isn’t all that depressing, when comparing it to modern design and fonts. I personally find their work inspiring and I think if you check out Scripts you will too.

For this installment of Typography Tuesday I had to share Veer Presents: “Our Fonts, Our Friends.” This clever ad mixes some of my favorite things, fonts, mid-century modern esthetic and clever production. Fantastic!

“Our Fonts, Our Friends” is the first in a series of retro science films about fonts, from Veer. In this installment, the narrator discusses font styles, how to choose your font, and where to find an endless supply of affordable fonts.

The Most Amazing Model Ever – Miniatur Wunderland

Jan 2, 2012   //   by Devlin   //   Blog  //  No Comments

When I was a kid I loved making models. But I have to say this is the most amazing model I’ve ever seen. The next time I make it to Germany, I know where I will visit first. Okay fine, after the Beer Hall, I know where I’ll visit second, Miniatur Wunderland!

The official video about Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg, the largest model railway in the world, and one of the most successful tourist attractions in Germany. On the 1.300 m² large layout, far more than a thousand trains, aircrafts, cars and ships move about. A wonder of the world in miniature. Please, find more information on http://www.miniatur-wunderland.com – From their press materials.
