Cool Mid-century Modern Building

Cool Mid-century Modern Building

I try to have coffee with a good friend every week at Louisa’s Cafe & Bakery  in Seattle’s Eastlake neighborhood. This restaurant is great and I enjoy hanging out there. Beyond the great coffee, another thing that I love about going there is walking past the cool mid-century building next door.

The building was built in 1965 and it’s mid-century architecture is apparent. I’m not sure if the building actually has a name, but I like to  call it the Langdon Chase building (the current owners) becuase it sounds so mid-century in and of itself.

But even if the building doesn’t have a proper name I really enjoy the great aqua tiled patterns on the facade and the fantastic concrete awning on the front of the building. They really are jewels of mid-century construction techniques.

I’ve read that it is currently being used as an office space, and I haven’t seen the interiors so I don’t know if the mid-century aesthetic continues inside, but I sure hope so. If not, we can still enjoy the modernist sensibilities on the outside.

If you find yourself in Eastlake, stop in at Lousia’s, grab some coffee and a scone and check out the mid-century gem next door.
