Six Great Character Introductions in Movies
Nothing beats a good character introduction. Either it should be unexpected or built with tension. Here’s a few that I find completely effective and set the tone for the character in just a few seconds.
- Tyler Durden in Fight Club
Flashes of Tyler – first we see him as brief clips
Full intro of Tyler to the unnamed narrator.
- Dr. Franken Further Rocky Horror Picture Show – Has anyone owned a role better than Tim Curry than he did as the debached leader of extraterrestrial Transylvanians?
- Darth Vader in Star Wars: A New Hope. So full of menace with out even lifting a lightsaber.
- Quint in Jaws – Baddassery made flesh. (Side note, the nails on a chalboard makes the flesh crawl).
- Kazer Sozey in Unusual Suspects – so unexpected.
- The Joker: The Dark Knight – A brilliant opening sequence that serves of the best version of the joker on film.
