Sports
Thought for today: sports is secular religion. It is a safe release of the tribal and the irrational. It’s drama without a script, a soap opera but where the end is always in doubt. It builds us fans (fanatics!) to the height of ecstasy and the pit of despair with heroes to root for (our team) and villains to vanquish (our opponents).
It’s utterly arbitrary and irrelevant, but oh so much fun and gives us the metaphors to make sense of the world.
