Shogun/Samurai Swords
This was a classic game from the 1980s, originally called Shogun, but renamed Samurai Swords in later editions. Due to legal action by James Clavell, author of Shogun. It is sort of like risk mechanically in that you get random placements of territories. But you had different types of units and could build large armies. The goal was to become the Shogun and take over feudal Japan. The pieces were amazing, and fun to play with in their own right. Plus, it had a ninja and you could take out other folks generals, that was pretty great.
