Claude Garamond
Born: C. 1500
Died: 1561

Few type designers are as well known as Claude Garamond. There is good reason for this, his contributions to letter design and tyopography have had a marked influence western design for almost five hundred years, and will continue to do so long as good typography is taken seriously.
Claude Garamond was born in Paris around 1500 (sources vary) and began his career as and apprentice punch-cutter and printer for Antoine Augreau in 1510.
