Battle of Actium
Today, September 2, is the anniversary of the Battle of Actium. This was the battle that more or less ended the Roman civil wars and allowed Octavian to be sole ruler of the Roman World. Finally ending the Roman Republic and ushering in the Roman Empire. Though people at the time may not have seen it that way.
