New Video: The Tide
Here’s my latest little YouTube video: The Tide
Daily Design: 328/366
The waves crash against the pier, laughing. A sharp bitter sound. Hollow and endless. They don’t roll in gently, but hurl themselves forward, slamming into the barnacle encrusted pilings with a fury that seems personal, as if the sea itself resents the existence of anything that tries to stand against it. The water churns, restless and gray, swallowing the sky’s reflection until there’s no distinction between the sea and storm, between below and above.
The wind cuts through the waterfront, carrying a scent of salt and decay, rattling rusted chains pulling at forgotten ropes that slap uselessly against the dock. The wood beneath your feet is slick, worn soft by years of surrender. You watch as the tide rises and falls, surging forward, retreating only to try again. As if it believed persistence alone can bring the world to its knees.
You wonder if it’s right, if given enough time, when the strongest things are broken. Barnacles clinging until they are crushed. Wood standing until it rots. Pilings holding fast until a tide swallows them whole. And you, you’re just another thing standing at the edge. Waiting for the water to reach you. And the waves keep laughing.
