The Orginal (Abandoned) Oyster House

I am fascinated by abandoned places. Especially ones that were once full of life and vitality. Near Port Townsend, on Washington State’s Olympic Peninsula you can find one such place, the “Original Oyster House.” Our family has stayed several times at the World Mark Discovery Bay, which shares in the same parking lot.

Everytime I go there I am fascitated by the decor, the view (which is amazing), and the thoughts of all the people who once went to this resturant over the years before it closed. I like to imagine all the stories that could have happened, the wedding rehersal dinners, the unrequited love between staff members, the owner seeing the restuant was deep in the red. So many possibilities.

I do really love the hand painted sign and the tall masted ship on the front door. Lovely hand created features, hopefully in whatever the next life is for this building they can be saved. Love how it is all in lower case and the g lovingly crosses the h. Really fun design.

Perhaps someday it will rise again, or will it fall into the sea. 4,000 square foot on beautiful Discovery Bay. It could be a place of dreams fulfilled. If you’re interested, as of this writing it can be yours for $500k! Do check out the Redfin listing, it has great shots of the bar current and former, I didn’t get those, but it was amazing. So 1970s!
