Cool Art at the UDistrict Sound Transit Station

Sound Transit has some pretty cool art in their Link Light Rail Stations, you can learn about all of them in this great write up on their blog. One I saw recently was in the UDistrict Station near the University of Washington. It was created by Lead Pencil Studio and their work captures the architectural ornaments once seen on historic buildings with digital displays acting as windows.

The video displays show slowly changing films that give vistas into “ordinary apartment life, historical events from the University District, the natural environment, UW student life and the Alaska Yukon Pacific Exposition.”

I really like it, though it seems they could’ve done more with the screens. Feels like a missed opportunity. It would’ve been pretty cool to have had an interconnected story that takes place on the screens as you wait for your train. But maybe that’s just me, I am a big fan of Hitchcock’s Rear Window, so maybe I was hoping for something like that. Who knows maybe they can swap it out at some point.
