Helvetica in the Pit Toilet

The great designer Paul Scher is famously not a fan of the font Helvetica. Perhaps she’d love the irony that it’s the font that adorns the signs admonishing campers from throwing trash in the pit toilets at Federal Campgrounds. Or perhaps this reinforces the idea that Helvetica is the font that symbolizes power and bureaucracy.

So, is it funny or sinister that Helvetica follows you into the can? I lean to funny, but that’s just the way I roll.

I was also morally opposed to Helvetica because I viewed the big corporations that were slathered in Helvetica as sponsors of the Vietnam War. So therefore if you used Helvetica you were in favor of the Vietnam War so how could you use it?
