Shaping Seattle: Great Use of Data and Maps
I found this well done mapping service showing building construction in my home town of Seattle, Shaping Seattle: Buildings Map from the Seattle Department of Construction & Inspections.
It is a really well done mapping tool that you can use to check out out active projects that require Design Review.
It is intended to “increase public awareness about opportunities to participate in the Design Review process. Design Review is one of the initial steps a developer takes to determine the viability of a proposed project. Some projects do not complete the Design Review process, and/or do not get built. For these reasons, this map is not an appropriate tool to interpret development trends or housing statistics.”
It’s a fun way to explore new projects, check out some interesting architecture, and a model of public-government interaction. I love just looking about on the site and seeing what’s in the pipeline.
